Repeat root canal treatment Wrocław
At our clinic in Wroclaw, we implement repeated root canal treatment (revision, re-endodontic treatment). It is necessary when the original treatment did not completely remove the infected content of the root canals (infected pulp), so that inflammation develops within the tooth. Inaccurate filling of the cleaned canal or leaving a broken tool in the canal may also be an indication.

Repeat root canal treatment in Wroclaw
As a dental clinic, we offer multidirectional diagnosis and treatment of teeth, gums and jaw disorders. Patients who need repeated root canal treatment can count on:
- consultation of a dentist specialized in endodontics and qualification for re-endo treatment,
- diagnosis of the condition – digital X-ray, including pantomogram (3d photo of teeth), point-of-care photo of the tooth and surrounding structures, or CT scan.
- complete root canal re-treatment under the microscope – with attention to safety, using modern tools and materials.
All of these services are available at our clinic in Wroclaw, so you will get your root canal re-treatment, as well as diagnosis and evaluation of treatment effects, all in one place.
What does a root canal re-treatment look like?
Repeat endodontic treatment consists of several key steps:
- diagnosis, primarily X-ray or CT scan, assessment of inflammation,
- removal of previously placed filling/infected tissue,
- cleaning of sewers, disinfection,
- thermoplastic root canal filling,
- sealing the tooth surface.
After endodontic treatment, it is advisable to restore the tooth as soon as possible. Failure to restore can lead to complications such as dissection and reinfection.

Root canal re-treatment – under the microscope
In Wroclaw, root canal re-treatment is performed with the use of a dental microscope, which allows us to magnify the treatment field dozens of times. This allows the dentist to visualize the structure of the root canals with all their branches and the most difficult to reach parts. The microscope we work with also allows us to measure the length and structure of the canals.
A common cause of repeated endodontic treatment is incorrect preparation of the canal at the point of its branching. This is when there is a failure to remove all of the infected pulp or inaccurate filling after cleaning. Using a microscope, we can almost completely minimize the risk of leaving an untreated portion of the canal.
Modern technology provides opportunities to properly treat root canals even after a failed primary treatment, thus avoiding tooth extraction.
Precision and safety
We perform root canal re-treatment using state-of-the-art equipment and high-end instruments. We use microscopic magnification and a digital endometer, which we use to measure the length of the canals.
During treatment, we use z cofferdam, which protects against the transfer of infected contents to other parts of the mouth or microscopic instruments falling into the throat. We use a sealed thermoplastic filling and, if necessary, anesthesia, so that treatment does not involve any pain or discomfort.

When to perform a root canal re-treatment?
If the initial root canal treatment was not successful, painful symptoms may develop after a while. These result from developing inflammation. Then the only solution is endodontic retreatment or tooth extraction. Symptoms of inflammation include pain, as well as a specific image on radiographic examination. The most common indications for root canal re-treatment are:
- Incomplete filling of canals (bacteria can grow in unfilled portions of the canal, allowing inflammation to heal).
- Incomplete filling of a branched canal – without the help of a microscope, it is easy to overlook the branching of the canal, and consequently its incomplete preparation.
- Fracture of a broken dental tool – due to the miniaturization of tools and the very small diameter of root canals, a microscope is required to remove the tool.

FAQ
Does repeat root canal treatment make sense?
Yes. A revision can save a tooth when previous treatment was incomplete or a new infection has developed. In many cases, it allows you to avoid extraction and keep your own tooth for years to come.
Can a tooth undergo root canal treatment twice?
Yes. A tooth can be retreated – the old filling is removed, the canals are thoroughly cleaned and sealed again. Retreatment is often performed under a microscope to increase precision.
How much does it cost to have a root canal retreatment?
At Dentaxo, prices start at:
- PLN 1,200 – single-root tooth
- PLN 1,400 – double-root tooth
- PLN 1,800 – triple-root tooth
- PLN 200 for each additional root
The exact price is determined after assessing the difficulty of the case.
When is root canal retreatment necessary?
A revision is necessary when pain, swelling, or inflammation occurs at the root tip, or when a CBCT scan shows uncleaned canals, additional canals, or a leaky filling. It is also necessary when treatment performed years ago needs to be improved.
