Endodontic treatment - what does it consist of?

Endodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment of root canals – the structures leading from the inside of the zкba aї to the koњci in the jaw and jaw. The inside of a tooth – its chamber and roots – is filled with pulp, a highly innervated and vascularized tissue. If the pulp becomes infected as a result of decay or damage to the tooth, inflammation develops within. Then the only treatment options are endodontic treatment or extraction (removal of the tooth).

During treatment, the endodontist’s task is to remove infected tissue from the root canals. This requires a great deal of precision and skill, as the canals are very thin structures, often with curves and branches. For successful treatment, it is necessary to remove all the pulp, from all parts of the root, followed by disinfection and tight filling of the canal with a special material.

When to perform root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment is indicated in any situation where the tooth pulp has become infected. This is usually the result of advanced decay or mechanical damage (such as a fracture) to the tooth.

Pulp infection is often accompanied by severe pain, and X-ray images show inflammation in the root of the tooth and in the adjacent bone tissue of the maxilla or mandible.

Root canal treatment without poisoning in Wroclaw - in one visit

In the past, root canal treatment involved chemical poisoning of the pulp. This prolonged treatment time and subjected patients to discomfort. Modern medicine makes it possible to perform root canal treatment in a single visit.

In more complicated cases, especially if the treatment involves teeth with a large number of roots and/or their complex course, treatment may require several visits. Endodontic treatment involving several teeth is not associated with discomfort, pain or risk of infection for the patient (thanks to the treatment site being well protected between visits).

Root canal treatment Wroclaw

Root canal treatment is a procedure to save a tooth from extraction. We can successfully describe the process of the treatment itself in several fundamental steps, which we can assign to practically every patient’s case.

Diagnosis and research:

The first step of each visit is a diagnosis, in which our dentist assesses the condition of the tooth and determines the need for root canal treatment. Based on our clinical examination and X-ray analysis, our dentist identifies the presence of infection, pulp damage or mechanical damage.

Anesthesia:

Prior to treatment, the dentist applies local anesthesia to ensure maximum comfort for the patient. We ensure that, thanks to the anesthesia, the patient feels no pain during the entire process.

Insulation:

Isolation is a process that minimizes the risk of contamination when performing the procedure.

Pulp removal:

The dentist begins root canal treatment with the process of removing infected or damaged pulp from inside the tooth. To do this, he uses the appropriate tools to thoroughly clean the root canals.

Cleansing and disinfection:

After removing the infected pulp, the dentist thoroughly cleans the root canals. To do this, he uses special antiseptic solutions that help disinfect and eliminate accumulated bacteria, inflammation and other pathogens accumulated around the tooth.romadzonych bakterii, stanu zapalnego oraz innych patogenów zgromadzonych wokół zęba.

Root canal filling:

After a thorough cleaning, the dentist fills the root canals with a special material, usually gutta-percha, an ingredient of natural origin. The purpose of filling the canals is to prevent reinfection of the tooth, to form a seal and strengthen the tooth structure.

Tooth restoration:

After root canal treatment, the tooth may also require restoration and reinforcement. Especially in situations where there has been mechanical damage to the tooth structure. Depending on its condition, the type of damage and the extent of structural changes, the dentist may also recommend a dental filling or crown to restore its original function and appearance.
